Chinese Vice Premier meets UNDP official

¡@¡@BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhuanet) -- China will continue to work with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to reinforce the nation's fights against HIV/AIDS and other public health problems,Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi said here Friday.

¡@¡@The UN agency and China's Ministry of Health are preparing a report to address challenges in the field of AIDS control and to make recommendations.

¡@¡@The Chinese government would maintain good cooperation with the UNDP in fields including foreign investment, women's development and public health, Wu said at a meeting with Kerstin Leitner, the outgoing UNDP resident representative in China.

¡@¡@Leitner will soon finish her five-year term as the top UNDP official in China, and will work as a senior official at the WorldHealth Organization, also a UN agency.

¡@¡@Leitner said China can prevent HIV/AIDS from developing into a big health threat if the government takes immediate and strong control measures, as it has done to contain the recent outbreak ofsevere acute respiratory syndrome. Enditem
