Legislation on Article 23 continues soliciting public opinion: HK chief executive

¡@¡@HONG KONG, July 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Tung Chee Hwa said Monday the SAR government will continue soliciting public opinion on the amendments to the draft National Security (Legislative Provisions) Bill.

¡@¡@Tung said the government will also step up efforts to explain to the community the amendments on the Bill, which is aimed to implement Article 23 of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong SAR.

¡@¡@Tung reiterated that Hong Kong has a constitutional duty to legislate to ensure national security. Early enactment of the legislation would enable the government and the community to concentrate on revitalizing the economy, Tung said. Enditem
