¡@¡@TOKYO, Sept. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- The European Union (EU) will urge Japan and
other Asian nations to allow their currencies to rise against the dollar at a
meeting of top finance officials from the Group of Eight (G-8) industrial
nations in Dubai on Sept. 20.
¡@¡@According to Kyodo News, the EU's financial ministers have agreed to take a
strong message to the G-8 meeting that Asian countries must assume more
responsibility for the global economic recovery.
¡@¡@The move reflects the growing dismay among EU policymakers that the euro is
being forced to bear the brunt of the dollar's fall, and the increasing
resentment from manufacturers, Kyodo said.
¡@¡@The G-8 financial meeting brings together finance ministers andcentral bank
chiefs from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the
United States.
¡@¡@Representatives from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the
EU will also attend the meeting. Enditem
