¡@¡@KABUL, Sept. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Three Taliban were killed in a clash with
Afghan soldiers in a remote mountainous area in south Afghanistan on Wednesday,
said an Afghan government army commander.
¡@¡@The three Taliban remnants were shot down by Afghan soldiers, while they
were trying to escape from the scene of the incident, said Haji Janan, the
commander of the Afghan government army's 2ndcorps, adding that another
suspected Taliban fighter was arrested.
¡@¡@ The latest Taliban attack on Mahroof district of Kandahar province, which
met resistance from local government militias, left 15 suspected Taliban dead
and eight injured, according to provincial governor spokesman Khalid Pashton. A
well-known Talibansenior commander Mullah Ahfez Abul Rahim was killed in that
incident.
¡@¡@In the past weeks, Taliban have urged Afghans not to work for President
Hamid Kazai and US-led coalition forces. They have also declared Jihad against
Karzai and his loyalists.
¡@¡@On September 18, Dowlat Khan, a security commander of the provincial Paktia
province, expressed his concern over possible attacks by Taliban guerrillas,
saying that the recent Taliban attack on Waza Khor, a district of southern
Paktia province bordering Pakistan, indicated fugitive Taliban were trying to
launch more attacks on Afghan and foreign targets.
¡@¡@"Last night dozens of suspected Taliban attacked on Waza Khor district of
Paktia province, all of them were resisted by the local Afghan troops. No
casualties have been reported in that incident." said Khan in a phone call to
Xinhua late Wednesday.
¡@¡@He added the Afghan troops responded with small arms and artillery,
exchanged fire for one hour, after that Taliban guerrillas pulled back toward
mountainous area close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
¡@¡@Khan maintained that there might be new attacks soon by Talibanguerrillas
on districts across the border. More Afghan troops havebeen sent to that area.
¡@¡@In another incident on Tuesday night, five rockets were launched on
Jalalabad, the capital city of southeast Nangarhar province. They targeted at
the Jalalabad airport and a residence village named Chapar yar, said a security
official from the Jalalabad police department.
¡@¡@The increased attacks on Afghan troops and US-led coalition forces showed
that the Taliban remnants were preparing for more attacks, said Karzai's
spokesman Jawed Ludin on Wednesday. Enditem
