JAGDAQI, Heilongjiang, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Lightning strikes have been ascertained as the cause of the fire at Kandu River in Dahinggan Mountains, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, local fire fighters said on Monday.
The wood that has been stricken and ignited by lightning has been found, the fire fighters added.
The forest at No. 798 highland along Kandu River caught fire on May 22, and the fire resurged on May 24 and has not yet been extinguished.
The fire fighters said high temperature and drought lingered at the Dahinggan Mountains area last summer, which made flammable stuffs there dry and helped the area expose to higher fire risks.
Since mid May this year, the area experienced windy weather, with strong gale sweeping some areas.
Dahinggan Mountains area is home to important state-owned forests and is a major lumber production base in China. Enditem
