KABUL, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Around a dozen militants have been killed by the U.S.-led Coalition forces in southern Afghanistan, a Coalition statement said Tuesday.
The extremists were killed on May 12 during a Coalition forces operation in Garmser district of Helmand province to disrupt Taliban weapons supply operations, it said.
The force while performing search of compounds targeting a Taliban commander came into contact with militants, according to the U.S.-led military.
Ammunition and weapons were discovered and destroyed by the Coalition in the operation.
The U.S. is leading a 20,000-strong multi-national force in Afghanistan, the majority of which is deployed in restive eastern and southern regions, with security mission.
