HARBIN, March 17 (Xinhua) -- A large high-quality graphite deposit has been discovered in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, local authorities said Thursday.
Initial surveys show that deposit, located in Mudanjiang city, has reserves of more than 35 million tonnes of graphite, according to the provincial forest industry bureau.
Surveys also show that the reserve is high quality and can be easily exploited.
"On the premise of environmental protection, we will further explore and research the graphite deposit, and cooperate with industrial leaders to better develop its underground resources," said Wang Jingxian, head of the bureau.
Graphite can be widely used in industries, including aerospace, electronics, metallurgy and machining. It is the basis for the miracle material graphene, which is viewed as a key material in China's innovation-driven development strategy.
