DHAKA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Dhaka University Confucius Institute in Bangladesh has distributed certificates among hundreds of its Chinese language proficient students.

Scores of students who passed examination of different levels of HSK, Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi or the Chinese Proficiency Test, were also given certificates at a ceremony held at the institute on Thursday.

Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh Chen Shuang, Zhou Mingdong, director at Dhaka University Confucius Institute, Director of the Institute of Modern Languages of Dhaka University Professor Iffat Ara Nasreen Majid and Professor Lina Taposhi Khan of Dhaka University among others, were present in the ceremony.

Dhaka University Professor Iffat Ara Nasreen Majid appreciated Confucius' teachings and said across the world Confucius Institutes are considered an important bridge-building platform.

Confucius Institute at Dhaka University will surely benefit all, Majid said.

She said it's really great to see that institute has shifted to its permanent quarter in the Dhaka University's Institute of Modern Languages after functioning from a temporary place initially. "I am very glad to see the CI's (Confucius Institute) new permanent quarter at the Dhaka University campus," Majid added.

"The Confucius Institute is very nice. Welcome every body. Welcome all the students."

In her welcome speech, Zhou Mingdong expressed her pleasure at seeing more and more Bangladeshi university students' interest to learn Chinese language.

She said this certificate distribution ceremony is also aimed at further inspiring the institute's fresh students who are also very keen to learn Chinese language and know China.

"We welcome our new students today through this ceremony," she said.

Mingdong said the Dhaka University Confucius Institute has become a prime destination for Chinese language learners in Bangladesh since its establishment.

In June last year the institute's permanent quarter was constructed under support from the Chinese government, Confucius Institute headquarters and China's Yunnan University.

Mingdong said Dhaka University Confucius Institute has regularly been conducting examination for different levels of HSK to help students test their Chinese ability to face practical and real-life situations.

Speaking at the ceremony, a Dhaka University Confucius Institute student said after studying three months at the institute he can read and write many Chinese characters now.

"We're so lucky to have so many nice teachers," said Zihad Hassen who now also likes to introduce himself with his Chinese name Ji Han. He further said, " I believe that our Chinese language proficiency will be improved more and more under the instruction of so many experienced teachers in such a beautiful place."

"Great help and support have been given to us by the Chinese government, people, Chinese companies and Chinese teachers. My friends, we should work hard on our study so that we can return their help and contribute to Sino-Bangladesh friendship." Enditem
