RIO DE JANEIRO, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The 2019 Copa America is set to be concentrated in Brazil's southeast to avert long-haul flights that afflicted teams participating in the 2014 World Cup.

Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officials plan to stage the continental tournament in the cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, according to the Globo Esporte news portal.

The stadiums earmarked for the tournament - Sao Paulo's Corinthians Arena, Rio's Maracana and Belo Horizonte's Mineirao - were rebuilt for the World Cup and will not need further refurbishments, the site said.

It added that officials from South American football governing body CONMEBOL would discuss the size of the tournament at a meeting in Santiago, Chile, later this month.

The competition could include the USA and Mexico, in addition to the 10 teams from South America.

There is also a proposal to expand the format to 16 teams, featuring invited teams from Europe and Asia.
