Philippine city of Calamba launches youth football program

MANILA, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The international soccer governing body FIFA partnered with the Philippine city of Calamba to develop football programs in the country, local media reported Monday.

City officials launched Sunday the Kasibulan football grassroots development program, which seeks to discover young football players who may one day play for the national team, according to a report filed by www.abs-cbnnews.com.

The program will target young players six to eight years old who will be trained in the sport of football.

FIFA vice president Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, who graced Sunday's event, said FIFA will extend 20,000 U.S. dollars per month for the program.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) is also allocating 20 million pesos (472,813 U.S. dollars ) for the grassroots program.
