BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping has attended the founding ceremony of the China-Kazakhstan Entrepreneurs Committee in Astana, together with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The committee is the first bilateral business cooperation mechanism to be set up between China and a Central Asian country. Xi has urged entrepreneurs from China and Kazakhstan to boost cooperation. President Xi Jinping also met with Kazakh Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament and discussed improving ties between the two countries.
Speaking at the founding ceremony, President Xi called on the committee to work on new concepts and enhance cooperation between the two sides.
He also encouraged the committee to come up with a package of new projects in transport, agriculture, high-tech and green energy.
President Nazarbayev spoke of extending cooperation with China and a "revival" of the ancient Silk Road trade route.
The two presidents also witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation documents between Chinese and Kazakh enterprises.
Both also attended the opening ceremony of the gas pipeline between China and Kazakhstan.
The Chinese President later also met with Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov.
They discussed the expansion of the China-Kazakhstan crude oil pipeline and construction of the China-Central Asia gas pipeline. Prime Minister Akhmetov said that Kazakhstan would continue to target a two-way trade figure of 40 billion US dollars for 2015.
President Xi also met the Speaker of the Kazakh Parliament’s Lower House, Nurlan Nigmatulin, to discuss legislative cooperation.
Xi said cooperation between the two countries’ legislatures is an important part of the China-Kazakhstan comprehensive strategic partnership.
He called on the two sides to expand friendly exchanges, share experience and learn from each other in such fields as governance, democracy and rule of law.
