Rwanda to resume sporting activities next week

KIGALI, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Several non-contact outdoor sporting activities will resume in Rwanda on June 8 with measures against the spread of COVID-19, Rwandan Ministry of Sports announced Friday.

The sporting activities allowed to resume include cycling, athletics, golf, tennis, hiking, motorsports among others, said the guidelines issued to the public by the ministry.

Those to take part in outdoors sports activities have to wear face masks before and after doing sports and carrying hand sanitizers all the time for use whenever necessary, it said.

They are also required by the ministry to strictly respect social distancing of at least 1.5 meters.

It also warned against sharing sport equipment and closely placing equipment with other people's.

However, individuals with coronavirus-like symptoms such as cough, flu, cold and sneezing are not allowed to do outdoor sports, it said.

The measures will be reviewed after 15 days upon health assessment.

As of Thursday, the number of coronavirus cases in Rwanda reached 410, including 280 recoveries and two deaths.

Currently Rwanda only allows individual sporting activity in open spaces as a way to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. Enditem
