In Moscow, 2,308 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours.

MOSCOW, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Russia reported 8,481 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its national count to 1,176,286, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Wednesday.

Russia's COVID-19 infections have been growing fast after the summer holiday season with restrictions on large-group gatherings lifted.

In Moscow, 2,308 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the capital's total to 292,601, the center said.

Over the past day, 177 new deaths were reported, taking the country's death toll to 20,722, the center said, adding that 958,257 patients have recovered so far, including 5,858 over the past 24 hours.

As of Tuesday, 219,714 people remained under medical observation, and over 46 million COVID-19 tests have been conducted across the country.
