JIANGMEN, China, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai defeated Liaoning 3-0 (27-25, 25-14, 25-19) in the quarterfinals here on Wednesday, advancing into the last four at the Chinese Women's Volleyball Championship.
The first set saw the two sides trade the lead until Shanghai's Zhang Yichan made a block helping shanghai edge out to take the set.
The second set became a lop-sided show for Shanghai, which built an 11-4 lead at the start before Liaoning fought back to cut the score 12-8. However, Shanghai gradually controlled the pace of the match and denied Liaoning a chance to rally back.
The two sides were locked in a stalemate at the beginning of the third set but after reaching a tie of five, Shanghai scored six in a row and finally won the third 25-19 to reach the semifinals.
In Wednesday's other quarterfinals, Jiangsu smashed Sichuan 3-0 (25-8, 25-15, 25-20), Tianjin crushed Zhejiang 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-22), and Shandong beat Fujian 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-19). Enditem
