NAIROBI, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Railways Corporation will from Thursday increase the number of express trains to and from Nairobi and Mombasa on the standard gauge railway (SGR) to cater for rising demand for the service as activities normalize in the country after the COVID-19 squeeze.
The corporation in conjunction with Chinese firm Afristar has been running two express service trains to and from Nairobi and Mombasa since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in July.
However, many people have been missing the train due to the high demand.
"We will have an additional afternoon express train to and from Nairobi and Mombasa. Get on board," the firm said in a notice on Wednesday.
The first train will now be leaving Nairobi at 8 a.m. to arrive in Mombasa at 1:15 p.m. and the second from Nairobi to Mombasa at 2:15 p.m. to arrive in Mombasa at 7:30 p.m.
The trains from Mombasa to Nairobi will have similar schedules.
The addition of the trains normalizes the services, putting them back to how they were before COVID-19 broke out. Passengers will still be able to book two months in advance.
