PARIS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Dimitri Payet scored but was shown a straight red card just two minutes later as Marseille managed to defend a 1-1 draw despite playing with 10 men for more than one hour in Sunday's Ligue 1 action.

The French midfielder fired Marseille in front in the 16th minute from Florian Thauvin's pass, squeezing a shot between goalkeeper Anthony Lopes and the foot of the post for his first goal of the season.

But the 33-year-old soon after committed a serious foul on Leo Dubois, for which referee Stephanie Frappart initially showed a yellow card but changed it to a red after a VAR review.

Houssem Aouar converted a penalty in the 28th minute to equalize for the hosts after Melvin Bard was taken down by Alvaro Gonzalez.

Rennes kept its lead in the standings over Lille on goal difference, although its four-match winning streak ended with a 2-2 draw against second-from-bottom side Stade Reims.

Rennes had the chance to win all three points in stoppage time but Steven Nzonzi's header hit the post.

Reims took an early lead through captain Yunis Abdelhamid's header in the 11th minute. But goals from Raphinha and Damien Da Silva put Rennes in front at the break.

Boulaye Dia levelled in the 66th minute to clinch the second point for Reims this season.

Also on Sunday, Lille secured a comfortable 3-0 win at Strasbourg thanks to goals from Zeki Celik, Renato Sanches and Burak Yilmaz. Strasbourg has lost five of its six league games since the new season started in August. Enditem
