India's Mumbai reports over 10,000 COVID-19 deaths

MUMBAI, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Mumbai has become the first Indian city to cross the grim milestone of 10,000 deaths due to COVID-19, as per the update from the city's civic body on Sunday.

Of the 248,722 total cases in India's financial capital, 219,152 cases were cured and discharged, while 19,554 were active cases and 10,016 died, which indicated a recovery rate of 88 percent, the update said.

The city currently has 633 active containment zones with 8,585 buildings that have been sealed to prevent the spread of infection.

Delhi, the worst affected Indian city, has 352,520 cases and has so far reported 6,225 deaths.

India has 668,154 actives cases with 118,534 deaths reported so far.

The number of active cases in India has remained below 700,000 mark for the third consecutive day, according to official data. Enditem
