1,000 kg of caffeine seized in Myanmar's eastern state

YANGON, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities seized 1,000 kilograms of caffeine in Shan state, according to a release from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the joint police force made a seizure in Tachilek township on Monday morning and a total of 1,000 kilograms of caffeine were confiscated from a car.

Further investigation is underway to capture the suspect, who fled the scene, under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the release said.

According to a latest release issued by the President's Office, a total of 1,419 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar while 2,169 people were charged in connection with the cases as of Nov. 21 this year, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department on June 26, 2018.
