CHAMBISHI, Zambia, July 6 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese enterprise, Chambishi Copper Smelter (CCS) has set aside three million Kwacha (about 167,356 U.S. dollars) this year for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs in Kalulushi district, in the Copperbelt province.
Xu Laixiang, company chief executive officer, said the company was committed to supplementing the efforts of the Zambian government in order to foster national development and uplift the welfare of the Zambian people.
Speaking in an interview, Xu said the projects will include the construction of three classrooms at Buyantanshi primary school, a bridge near Kafubu depot and a market shelter at Chibuluma market in Kalulushi mining district.
"This year CCS will spend three million Kwacha to implement projects in Kalulushi on the Copperbelt under our corporate social responsibility programs," he said.
According to Xu, the projects were meant to benefit the community to improve service delivery for Zambian citizenry.
Xu said since 2014 the company has spent 22 million Kwacha with about 4 million Kwacha spent annually.
He said the company was also committed to improving health care services and the rehabilitation of the road network in the district.
Kalulushi residents have commended CCS for its commitment to improve the living standards of the people.
Joseph Lundu said CCS has created hundreds of jobs for the locals and was also giving back to the community in which the company operates.
"The Chinese company has funded so many projects especially in education to help improve the learning standards of the Zambian youths," he said.
He called on other foreign and local companies to emulate CCS in its quest to give back to the community through its CSR. Enditem
