WASHINGTON, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The United States is expected to pay the
full reward of 30 million dollars to an Iraqi informant whose tip led to the
killing of former Iraqi leader Saddam's sons, Odai and Qusai, a senior State
Department official said Friday.
"We would expect
to pay the whole reward," the official told reporters on
condition of anonymity.
The United States has offered a 15 million dollars bounty for information
leading to capture or killing of each of Saddam's two sons, who were No. 2 and
No. 3 in the most wanted Iraqis' list.
It has also offered a 25 million dollars reward for information leading to
Saddam's capture. US officials said they still believe Saddam Hussein is at
large in Iraq.
Under a US program, people who provide such information may be eligible for
a cash reward, protection of their identities and relocation with their
families.
The State Department official did not disclose the identity of the Iraqi
informant who gave Odai and Kusai tip.
He said the US will consider the option to allow the informant to emigrate
to the United States.
The US military displayed the bodies of Odai and Qusai Friday in an attempt
to assure Iraqis that they were dead. End
