This is a kingdom of venomous snakes. The "snake island" off Dalian in Liaoning, China covers an area of 73 hectares. For more than 40 years, some researchers have been stationed here. With increased protection efforts, the number of the snakes has been on the rise in recent years. Now the island is home to nearly 20,000 pit vipers.
