Beijing Royal Fighters smash Nanjing Monkey Kings to claim first CBA win

ZHUJI, China, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Beijing Royal Fighters finally grabbed their first victory of the season by defeating the Nanjing Monkey Kings 110-82 in the fifth round of the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) here on Wednesday.

Ranking sixth in the previous season, the Royal Fighters have suffered four straight losses since the start of the new season. They started the game with a 9-0 run off shooting from Wang Zirui and Hou Yifan, and established a 35-22 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was still one-sided as Beijing extended its lead to 64-39. Nanjing fought back with an 8-0 streak after the halftime break, while Li Gen of Beijing stopped the momentum with four free-throws.

Later that quarter, Li Gen was evicted after kicking Nanjing's Li Shengdong. But with the advantage firmly in hand, Beijing still delivered the third straight loss to its opponents.

Six Beijing players scored in double digits including Hou Yifan, who had a game high 23 points. Yu Changdong had 15 points and ten rebounds while Sun Tonglin contributed six points, ten rebounds and nine assists.
